My own truth

Walking, no, more like stumbling through life
Vision blurred by all that’s occurred

Not staying on course has my dreams deferred
Allowed myself to lose focus
Due to foolishness and hocus pocus

Let comparison rob me of objectivity
had me forgetting about the blessings just for me

Doubt had me believing delayed had turned into denied
Had me trusting in worry and anxieties lies

Had to get regrounded and regroup
Had to familiarize myself again with my own truth

Had to remind myself of whose child I was
And that my gifts are truly a blessing from above

There is no timeframe or race
Just continue on and keep the pace

With renewed faith, my vision cleared
And once again I’m ready to tackle all I once feared.

The Circle of Life

Whenever anyone dies, it’s a humbling moment to remind us all of our mortality. No matter how we live or our socioeconomic backgrounds, we all have an expiration date.

Whether you believe in a higher power or not doesn’t negate the certainty of death.

The recent unexpected and tragic death of Kobe Bryant along with 8 other individuals rocked many.

Unexpected deaths are always hard, because there is no time to prepare or guard your emotions.

Now that I’m in my late forties and both my parents and several close friends have passed, it’s hard not to get caught up in an avalanche of grief and tears when hearing about the death of others.

It’s as if the grief of others, stirs up a hornets nest of emotions within me and I know from reading other peoples social media posts and comments that I’m not alone in those feelings.

I honestly have to force myself to limit time on social media as it can become too heavy a burden to bear. Energy no matter the source, can be transferred.

It’s important to take time for self care and to regroup after tragic events or the death of others.

It’s easy to allow the darkness and cloak of depression to envelop you into a false sense of comfort.

Don’t be fooled, your light is not out. The flame may have flickered, but as long as you have breath that light still shines.

So, I’ve committed to living more intentionally.

To appreciate the days and make them count.

To create new and lasting memories.

To live, laugh and love and show appreciation for all those in my life.

To let go of the small stuff and focus on the bigger picture.

I’ve committed to be a better version of myself and live each day to the fullest, because we never know when it will be our last.

Divine Conversations

Restless nights

the tired body

of an overworked mind

racing thoughts

subconscious longings

alone in bed

ideas take root in my head

clarity comes

revealing itself slowly

like a dawn breaking the horizon

when slumber is fleeting

I obtain the peace I seek

‘fore if I quiet my mind

and listen closely

I hear God speak

God-fidence

Do not compare your life to anyone else’s. We all have to follow our own path. No two people will follow the same path and trajectory and they aren’t meant to.

Teddy Roosevelt knew what he was saying when he stated, “Comparison is the thief of joy”, because it will rob you of your peace of mind when you try and compare your success, your status, your life with those around you. You don’t know how many souls may have been sold for so and so to live that fabulous life. Remember even salt looks like sugar, but trust everyone is not living a sweet, stress free life.

The only person you should be better than is the person you were yesterday. You are your only true competition. Live like it. No one can do you better than you can. So stop allowing commentators to narrate your life story. You are the star. Stand in and own your light! People will commentate from the sidelines and take no part in your struggle, you can do bad all by yourself. So refuse to allow any negative people, words or energy dwell among you.

Life is short so be intentional. People may not understand you, but they need to respect your choices just the same. Be confident in the fact what is meant for you will not be given to anyone else, no matter what is may look like, trust that as a divine law! You were born to be a success! That’s not arrogance that God-fidence!

Now go own your life and let your joy shine through!
